Frequently Asked Questions
More About Food-ology.
Food-ology, You are how you eat® is an original methodology founded by behavioral food expert and researcher, Juliet A. Boghossian. Based on over 20 years of empirical research partnered with quantitative data Food-ology links food habits to personality traits and behavioral tendencies. Food-ology offers a portal into the layers of one's character. A means to learn more about yourself and those around you to support better judgment, improve relationships, increase effectiveness and empower your life.
Q. How does Food-ology work?
Observe and document as many notable food habits as possible for the most transparent view of an individual's character and behavioral tendencies. Each food habit represents only one facet of our complex personalities. Observe how one cooks, cleans, shops for food or orders food off a menu, eats, or is influenced by external factors. Recognize notable, unique, repeating food habits, idiosyncracies, etc. Write to Food-ology Advice Column with your question and documented food habits to be considered for a gratis analysis.
Q. What can Food-ology reveal about me or someone I know?
Be it business, love, family or friendship, Food-ology offers insight into admirable and compromising traits – one’s ambition, motivation, fear, reasoning methodology, approach to challenge, temperament, addictive tendencies, self-esteem, self-awareness, loyalty, kindness and much more.
Q. Don’t people already know who they are – why is Food-ology necessary?
Yes, most people know what they want to know or admit about themselves. However, Food-ology reveals some of the more difficult realizations about ourselves – giving us a do-it-yourself intervention to a better you! Does this mean we all have compromising traits? Of course not. Does this mean we can be a better version of ourselves? Yes!
If you are looking to learn more about someone you know – Food-ology simply brings to surface traits you may not have recognized so you may quickly verify them yourself, saving you time and grief in the event a love match or business partnership is not ideal. Food-ology offers the 20/20 hindsight equivalent to living with someone.
Q. How can this type of information help me?
Knowledge is power. Food-ology can help you learn more about yourself and those around you to support better judgment, improve your relationships, increase effectiveness and empower your life.
Q. If you or someone you know receives an analysis calling out compromising characteristics does that mean they will always be challenged with those traits?
Absolutely not. The analysis provides a view into current, prevalent characteristics of an individual. Although it does not happen overnight people can change for the better. Use caution with negative insights you learn and work towards improving them. As people change, so will their eating habits.
On the flipside, an individual can go from displaying admirable characteristics to poor ones by means of a single negative life-changing experience. Food-ology is simple a snap-shot into the current phase of an individual’s life. Which is why, Food-ology analysis on children is especially eye-opening as it divulges early innate strengths that a parent could support and groom.
Q. Is a Food-ology analysis forever?
No. Similar to our evolving signatures, our food habits evolve as well and are affected by maturity, new experiences, exposure to different environments, people, health challenges, emotional experiences and more.
Q. What if I don’t agree with Food-ology’s analysis. For example, you find red flags with my partner but I disagree.
Food-ology offers a third eye to better judgment – YOU possess the other two. Food-ology does not provide "the answer" only guidance to forewarn you about compromising issues or encourage you with admirable ones so are prepared to either mitigate an issue in advanced or welcome it. Ultimately, the decision is yours.
Food-ology is not astrology or the roll of the dice to help one “figure out” what they must do. It is simply a third voice to challenge you to consider issues you may not have thought of.
Q. Does every food habit mean something?
No. Simply recognize more notable behaviors, gestures, habits, styles and ticks. We naturally experience off days where we are out of character due to illness, fatigue or an emotional event. ALL OF WHICH affect our eating habits. If it is a periodic change in eating style that does not repeat itself, disregard. Focus on actions that are “habits” and actions that are especially unique.
Q. What is your qualification? What supports your findings?
Food-ology is an original methodology founded over 20 years ago. My qualification lies in over 20 years of empirical research, combined with quantitative panel surveys to support the more flavor specific findings. My education in non-verbal communication and psychology further supports my research principles.
For years, Alfred Adler and Sigmund Freud performed empirical research in search of a means to expose what lies beneath an individual’s persona. Food-ology provides a groundbreaking portal to discover what lies beneath by means of an individuals instinctive habits with food.

Q. Can you deliberately change your food habits to be the person you want to be?
Absolutely. By fostering the food habits of the person you want to be, say a successful leader, one can develop the behavioral characteristics required for success. For example: exercising food habits that strengthen your discipline, follow through, and self-awareness.
Q. What if someone changes their food habits to fool you as to who they are?
If they did, it wouldn't be the first time. Consider the well-dressed, wine savvy, regal surname and charming charlatan running a scam. We've seen educated business-savvy millionaires get fooled into fraudulent investments posed by people like this. Did someone say Ponzi scheme? However, know this, Hunger, Sleep & Sex are among the most instinctual behaviors of mankind. Even if food habits are acted out to emulate best behavior or admirable characteristics, you will STILL see through the smoke and mirrors through a myriad of food habits that are simply much too instinctual or complex to fake. So keep your eyes out for notable, unique food habits.
